Seeking Advice or Help: H&R 9 Shot .22 Revolver

I’ve recently developed an interest in the Harrington & Richardson 9-shot .22 revolvers and I’m hoping to gather some insights from the community. This particular firearm seems to have a rich history and a lot of enthusiasts behind it. Here are a few specific points I’d love to get your thoughts on:

  • Ownership Experience: If you own or have owned an H&R 9-shot, what has your experience been like? Any memorable moments at the range, or specific quirks about the revolver that stood out to you?
  • Model Variations: I understand there are different models within this category. What are the differences between them, and are there any that you particularly recommend?
  • Pricing Insight: I’m considering picking one up but I want to make sure I don’t overspend. What should I expect in terms of pricing for a good condition model? Any tips on where to find the best deals?
  • Accessories: I’ve heard that speedloaders can be really useful. Which accessories do you find most helpful when shooting the H&R 9-shot? Any specific brands or models that are a must-have?
  • Nostalgia Factor: There seems to be a nostalgic element to these revolvers. What do you think makes them special? Is it purely their design, or is it the stories that come with them?

I’d love to hear your experiences, thoughts, and any recommendations you might have. It seems like there’s a lot of community knowledge out there that can really help inform my decision!

I’m really glad you’re seeking advice! The H&R 9 shot .22 revolver is a classic. Regular cleaning after use is key to keeping it in good shape. Use a bore snake after each session to prevent build-up.

Absolutely! I also recommend checking the cylinder locking mechanism regularly to ensure it operates smoothly. A little graphite lubricant can make all the difference!

When cleaning your revolver, don’t forget to remove the grips and clean underneath them too! That’s where dirt can accumulate unnoticed.

Good point, Matthew! I also like to use a toothbrush for hard-to-reach spots inside the frame. Keeps everything nice and clean.

I recommend using non-corrosive ammunition whenever possible. It really makes cleaning easier and keeps your revolver looking great!

That’s a great tip! Also, I find that wiping down the exterior after every session helps maintain that shiny finish.

Hydration seems key too! Keeping oils where they need to be prevents rust. A thin coat of oil on the exterior after cleaning goes a long way.

Totally agree! Just avoid over-lubricating; it can attract dirt. Less is more when it comes to oiling!

Does anyone have recommendations for cleaning kits specifically for the H&R .22 revolver? I’m considering getting a new one.

I’ve had good experiences with the Otis cleaning system. It’s compact and comes with everything you need!

When in doubt, consult the owner’s manual! It has a lot of maintenance tips specific to your model.

That’s definitely true! I learned a lot of specifics from mine that I wouldn’t have thought about otherwise.

Is it just me, or cleaning a revolver is oddly satisfying? Watching it go from gritty to gleaming is like magic.

You nailed it! There’s nothing like that sense of accomplishment when you’re done! But be careful—getting too excited can lead to forgetting steps!

I’ve had mixed experiences. Some say using harsh chemicals is bad, while others swear by it. What do you all think? Is there a middle ground?

I’m also looking into .22 ammunition for my H&R revolver. I’ve heard that CCI Standard Velocity is a great choice for target shooting due to its accuracy.

I’ve had good experiences with Federal AutoMatch too for plinking at the range. Nice clean burns!

For self-defense, some prefer the CCI Mini-Mag. It’s reliable and packs a bit of a punch for a .22.

Totally agree! Always good to have something dependable for self-defense.
