What I’m Looking For

Specifically, I’m interested in:

  • Accuracy: I want something that allows me to improve my aim.
  • Recoil: A manageable recoil helps me focus on shooting straight.
  • Price: As a beginner, I’m looking for something that doesn’t break the bank but still offers good quality.

Popular Models?

I’ve heard about a few handguns that are often recommended for target shooting:

  • Smith & Wesson M&P 22: Great for beginners with low recoil.
  • Glock 19: Known for its reliability and accuracy.
  • Sig Sauer P226: A bit on the pricey side, but many swear by its precision.

I’m looking for the best handgun for target practice too! I’ve heard a lot about the Glock 34 for its accuracy and reliability. Anyone else had experience with it?

The Glock 34 is fantastic! It’s super comfortable to shoot and has great balance. I’ve improved my accuracy a lot since switching to it.

I prefer the Smith & Wesson M&P 9. The grip feels great, and it’s easy to handle. Plus, you can’t beat its performance in the accuracy department!

I’ve also heard good things about that model. How does the recoil compare to a Glock?

The recoil on the M&P 9 is manageable. I think it’s a great option for new shooters. Any suggestions for budget options?

For budget options, the Ruger Mark IV is solid! It’s rimfire, so it has very low recoil, making it excellent for target practice without breaking the bank.

I second that recommendation! I love how easy it is to clean too. Maintenance is a breeze!

What about the reliability of the Ruger Mark IV? I’ve heard mixed reviews about certain models.

I’ve had my Mark IV for a while and it’s been reliable for me. Though, it’s always good to test a few rounds before committing to a purchase!

I find it amusing that we’re all recommending different models! So many choices! But honestly, it looks like personal preference plays a huge role here.

Absolutely! What fits one person might not fit another. I’ve even seen people argue over the subject!

It wouldn’t be a true gun forum without some contention! But in all seriousness, I really think it comes down to testing them out yourself.

If you’re looking for a great caliber for target practice, I’d recommend starting with the .22 LR. It’s low recoil and really affordable, which makes it great for beginners.

I totally agree! The .22 LR is perfect for long sessions. I also like how you can shoot it all day without breaking the bank!

What about the 9mm? I’ve heard it’s a solid choice for both practice and home defense. It’s a bit more powerful than the .22 LR but still manageable for target shooting.

That’s true! The 9mm offers a good balance. However, I find the ammo price can add up quickly compared to .22 LR.

I’ve been playing around with a .45 ACP, and though it’s more expensive to shoot, the kick adds an exciting challenge to my practice.

It sounds fun, but the cost could be a concern if you’re practicing a lot!

You guys make great points! I think it depends on your budget and how often you plan to practice. What’s the primary reason you’re getting into target shooting?
