What's the Best Magazine for Ruger American Ranch 7.62x39?

Seeking Advice on Magazines for Ruger American Ranch 7.62x39

I recently got my hands on a Ruger American Ranch chambered in 7.62x39 and I’ve been loving it for its performance at the range. However, I’ve been searching for the best magazines compatible with this rifle.

What I’m Looking For:

  • Compatibility: I need to make sure the magazines fit perfectly and function without any jams or issues.
  • Capacity Options: Are there high-capacity options available that don’t compromise on reliability?
  • Durability: What materials are the best for long-lasting use in various conditions?
  • Availability: Where can I purchase these magazines? Any retailers or websites you recommend?

Some Specific Questions:

  1. Which brands are reliable? I’ve seen some Magpul options and want to know if they’re worth it.
  2. Are there any aftermarket magazines to consider? I’ve heard of some brands that offer enhanced features.
  3. User Reviews: How do they perform during actual use? Anyone had a bad experience that I should be aware of?

I’d really appreciate any feedback or personal experiences you all can share! Thank you for the help!

Looking forward to the responses!

I’m really interested in finding the best magazine for my Ruger American Ranch in 7.62x39. I’ve heard mixed things about the stock magazine. What do you guys think?

I’ve used the stock magazine and found it pretty reliable, but I’ve been tempted to try some aftermarket options for more capacity. Anyone had success with that?

Aftermarket magazines can be hit or miss. I’ve had good luck with the Magpul AICS mags for my Ruger. They fit snugly and feed well. Definitely worth a try!

That’s great to hear! How do they compare in price to the stock mags? I’m looking for something budget-friendly.

They are reasonably priced, usually around $25-$30 each. And if you buy in bulk, some retailers give a discount. Just keep an eye out for sales!

Does anyone have experience with the ProMag magazines? I’ve read mixed reviews, and I’m a bit hesitant.

I’ve tried the ProMag and had issues with feeding. I’d stick with the OEM or Magpul options unless you’re feeling adventurous.

I upgraded my stock magazine to the MDT LSS chassis and love it! You do need to modify it a bit for proper fit though. Just a heads-up!

What kind of modifications are we talking about? I’m not very handy with tools!

You mainly need to file down a few edges on the chassis. It’s nothing too complicated, just take your time, and you’ll be fine!

I appreciate all the tips! I’m leaning towards the Magpul based on the feedback here. Does anyone know if they function well in cold weather?

I’ve used them in winter conditions, and they performed well for me. I didn’t experience any feeding issues, which was a relief!

That’s good to know! It seems like the Magpul is the consensus choice here. I may have to order a couple for testing.

It’s still important to remember that what works for one might not work for all. Always good to test with your own setup!

True! Every rifle is unique in its quirks. I like to think of it as a personality test for my equipment. Ha!

Haha, I love that! Let’s make sure we keep that in mind while shopping around!

I’ve tried several magazines with my Ruger American Ranch in 7.62x39. The Ruger OEM magazine has proven to be the most reliable for me, with very few feeding issues.

I agree! I used an aftermarket magazine once, and it jammed quite a bit. Stick with OEM for performance.
