What’s the Real Battery Life on the EOTech XPS2?

I’ve recently acquired an EOTech XPS2 for my rifle, and I’m curious about how its battery life stacks up in practical scenarios.

Real-World Battery Performance

From what I’ve read, the XPS2 is supposed to offer around 600 hours of battery life with the brightness set at an average level. However, I’ve seen mixed reports from users about actual performance.

  • Off vs. On: One of my concerns is whether the battery drains when the sight is turned off. Does anyone have experience with that?
  • Long Sessions: For those who frequently engage in shooting sessions that last several hours, how does the battery hold up?
  • Conditions Matter: Are there specific conditions under which the battery depletes faster? I’ve heard things like temperature and brightness settings play a role.

Comparisons & Experiences

I’m also interested in how it compares to other sights like the Aimpoint when it comes to battery life. I know the Aimpoint has a reputation for exceptional battery longevity, and I’m pondering whether it’s worth considering an alternative. If any of you have used both sights, your insights would be super valuable.

Conclusion

If you’ve got tips on keeping the XPS2 running longer or your personal anecdotes about battery life, please share! I want to ensure that I’m getting the best out of my equipment, especially during those critical moments in the field.

The official battery life for the EOTech XPS2 is about 600 hours with a single CR123 battery on setting 12. It varies based on brightness settings and usage.

That’s impressive! Does anyone know how much it drops with more intensive usage or higher settings?

I’ve noticed that on max brightness, the battery life can drop significantly. I usually see around 300 hours in that mode.

In real-life scenarios, like tactical training or competitions, my XPS2 usually lasts a month with moderate use. I do switch the brightness according to the conditions.

Definitely agree with you there, @seannewman. Switching settings really helps extend battery life, especially if you’re not in bright sunlight.

I’m curious, has anyone tried using rechargeable batteries? I’ve heard mixed reviews about performance.

As for rechargeable batteries, I tried them once and the battery life was noticeably shorter compared to CR123s. I switched back to disposables.

That’s good feedback, @curtis41! It’s essential to have reliable performance. Sometimes saving a few bucks costs more in other ways.

I like to keep an extra battery on hand just in case. It’s better to be safe than sorry!

Totally agree! Having a spare just adds peace of mind during outings.

Has anyone calculated the actual cost per hour of battery life? Seems like that would be an interesting metric for long-term use.

That’s a unique angle! I might try to work that out; it could be enlightening.

With my usage, I’d say the XPS2 is pretty efficient overall. Most other optics I’ve used drain batteries faster.

I had a buddy who forgot to turn off his EOTech during a trip; his battery lasted 4 days, which was pretty good considering the constant use!

Gotta love those accidental tests! I bet some would argue they never leave it on for that long. It’s a gamble!

In retrospect, I think the XPS2’s design is solid for battery management. It’s what keeps this model top-rated.

I’ve had my EOTech XPS2 for about a year now. On average, I get around 600-700 hours of battery life with the brightness set to medium. Make sure to turn it off when not in use; it really helps!

I’ve found that using the automatic shutoff feature works wonders! It saved my battery a few times during long hunts.

I agree with nkelly! Using medium brightness does extend battery life. I keep mine at that setting for target shooting, and I rarely need to swap batteries.
