What’s the best powder for 6.5 Creedmoor?

I’m diving into reloading for my 6.5 Creedmoor and I’m on the hunt for the best powder options out there. I’ve heard a lot about different powders, but I’d love to get some input from those with experience.

What I’m Looking For

I’m particularly interested in powders that:

  • Improve accuracy
  • Enhance velocity
  • Provide consistency across loadings

Current Considerations

So far, I’ve come across mentions of H4350 and RL-17 quite a bit. I’ve read they might be top contenders, but I’d like to hear:

  • Are there any others you’d recommend?
  • What have been your experiences with these powders?
  • Any tips on load data or charge weights?

Reloading Setup

Just as a bit of background, here’s what my setup looks like:

  • Redding T-7 Turret Press
  • Lee Dies for 6.5 Creedmoor
  • Using Lapua brass and Hornady ELD-M bullets

Summary

I’m just hoping to get some solid advice to ensure my loads perform well at the range. Any help or recommendations would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

I’ve had great success with H4350 for 6.5 Creedmoor. It’s been my go-to for achieving tight groups at long range.

I’m also a fan of H4350! I’ve tried other powders, but none has given me the consistency I need.

For those looking to reach max velocity, IMR 4831 may be worth considering too! Just be sure to check your load data.

I’ve used IMR 4831, but found it isn’t as temperature stable as H4350. What’s your experience with it?

Honestly, while H4350 is popular, don’t overlook Varget! It gives excellent results in my rifles and runs cleaner too.

Varget is good! But I didn’t get consistent speeds similar to H4350. What about ES and SD numbers?

I’ve noticed that during testing, I got better precision with H4350 despite Varget being cleaner. Curious about others’ experiences.

Can we talk about the importance of seating depth? I’ve varied that quite a bit with these powders and the results surprise me.

That’s a great point! I always try to tune my seating depth for the best performance depending on the powder used.

Has anyone tried Reloader 16? I’ve heard some claims about it being a good alternative but haven’t tested it myself.

I’ve used Reloader 16! It delivers decent performance, but I still prefer H4350 for precision.

I’m just here for the popcorn—this debate might last longer than my last reload! But seriously, good info here.

Thanks everyone for sharing! It’s enlightening to see different views and experiences. I’m planning to try a couple of these suggestions.

I wonder if there’s an optimal temperature for loading with these powders? That could explain some of the inconsistencies I’ve had.

For 6.5 Creedmoor, I’ve had great success with Hodgdon H4350. It’s consistent and works well for both target shooting and hunting applications.

I totally agree! H4350 is a favorite for many. Has anyone tried Reloader 17? I’m curious about its performance compared to H4350.

Reloader 17 is definitely worth considering! I’ve used it for long-range shooting and found it very effective. It offers higher velocities and lower temperatures.

That sounds promising! How does Reloader 17 compare in terms of availability? I’ve had trouble sourcing some powders lately.

H4350 has been more available in my area than Reloader 17. However, if you can find it, the performance boost is worth the search!
