What do you think about the S&W 686 Pro Series?

I’m considering adding a Smith & Wesson 686 Pro Series revolver to my collection and would love to hear your thoughts on it.

Specifications & Features

The S&W 686 Pro Series is known for its precision and performance. It typically includes features such as:

  • 5 or 7 shot cylinders
  • Adjustable rear sights
  • Stainless steel construction for durability
  • Smooth action and trigger pull

Performance in Shooting Sports

I’ve heard that this model performs exceptionally well in competitions like IDPA and USPSA. If you’ve had any experience using it in competitions, I’d be interested to know:

  • How did it feel in your hands?
  • Was the accuracy up to your expectations?
  • Did you encounter any issues during matches?

Comparisons & Modifications

I’m also curious how it stacks up against other revolvers in the same category. Do you think it’s worth the investment compared to, say, a Ruger GP100 or other options?
Furthermore, if anyone has made custom modifications or upgrades, I’d appreciate any insight on what improvements you saw.

Pricing & Availability

Lastly, I would love to hear your recommendations on where to purchase one, and what kind of price range I should expect. Are there specific dealers or online shops that you trust?

Thanks in advance for your feedback! Every piece of information helps.

I’ve had the S&W 686 Pro Series for about a year now, and I can confidently say it’s one of the best revolvers I’ve ever shot. The accuracy is outstanding, especially at 25 yards, and I’ve managed consistent groups around 1.5 inches using Federal 158 gr ammo.

That sounds awesome! I’ve been considering the same ammo for my 686. Have you tried any other brands? I’m curious about performance differences.

I prefer using Speer Gold Dot 135 gr for self-defense. I find the 686 Pro Series handles recoil wonderfully, making follow-up shots quick and manageable. It’s surprisingly pleasant to shoot!

That sounds great! My only concern has been the weight. Does that affect your shooting experience much?

Honestly, the weight adds stability. I prefer heft in a revolver – it keeps me steady and aids in accuracy. I’ve shot at least 500 rounds, and it feels like it gets better with use.

That’s good to hear! I haven’t shot enough revolvers to really compare, but I did try a Ruger GP100 once and found it a bit bulkier.

The Ruger GP100 is solid, but for precision shooting, the 686 Pro Series definitely edges it out. The trigger pull is buttery smooth, which makes a noticeable difference in accuracy.

I couldn’t agree more! Have you experienced any issues with the finish or rust? I’ve heard some stories.

I’ve not had any issues, but I always keep it clean and dry. I think regular maintenance goes a long way in preserving that beautiful finish. Plus, it’s just a good habit to form.

True! A clean gun is a happy gun! I’ve heard jokes about the 686 being a ‘snake charmer’… is it that smooth?

I’ve owned my S&W 686 Pro Series for over a year now, and the build quality is fantastic. The stainless steel construction gives it a durable feel, and I’ve had no issues with rust or wear.

That’s great to hear! How do you find the weight of the revolver? Does it impact your shooting experience?

I agree with you both! The ergonomics are superb; it fits comfortably in my hand. The trigger is also very smooth right out of the box, which I appreciate for accuracy.

I’ve noticed that too! The action is impressive, but how does the trigger compare after a few hundred rounds?

The finish on the 686 Pro Series is top-notch! It not only looks good but also adds to the durability. I’ve put mine through some tough conditions, and it’s held up beautifully.

Sounds promising! What kind of maintenance do you do to keep it in good shape?

Honestly, I do very little! A good cleaning after each use is all it needs. The materials used really help with its longevity, which I definitely appreciate.

I think the adjustable sights are a fantastic feature. They really enhance precision accuracy, especially for us who like to do some target shooting.

Absolutely! I’ve also heard mixed reviews about the stock grips—what do you all think?
