Tips for Western WA Elk Season?

Does anyone have tips on the best calls to use? I’m still trying to figure it all out. Any advice would be appreciated!

I swear by the bugle calls during the rut! They attract bulls like crazy. Just make sure to practice beforehand so it sounds authentic!

For elk hunting in Western WA, layering is key! Start with moisture-wicking base layers, add insulating mid-layers, and finish with a waterproof outer layer. Don’t forget a good pair of waterproof boots!

Absolutely! And I recommend at least a 400-gram thinsulate insulation for the boots. You’ll thank yourself on those chilly mornings.

Don’t skimp on optics. A good pair of binoculars or a spotting scope can make a huge difference in spotting elk from distances. I suggest brands like Vortex or Leupold.

Great point! Also, don’t forget a range finder. Knowing the exact distance can really improve your chances.

Safety is crucial—always wear bright colors to stand out, ideally orange. It’s about keeping safe while enjoying the hunt!

So true! I always pack a first aid kit, too. Just in case!

When it comes to firearms, I recommend a .30-06 or .300 Win Mag for elk in this region. Make sure you’re comfortable shooting it!

I’ve heard those are solid choices! Anyone tried using a bow? I’m curious about that setup.

Definitely go for a bow if you’re up for the challenge! It’s a different game, but a rewarding way to hunt elk if you have the skill.

Remember, folks, it’s not all about gear! Experience and understanding elk behavior make a huge difference. Think patience, not just equipment!
