Thoughts on the Taurus 740 Slim 15 Round Magazine?

I’m diving into the world of the Taurus 740 Slim and I’d love to get some feedback from fellow owners about the 15 round magazines. Thinking of picking up a few, but I have some questions before I commit.

Compatibility & Performance

  • Are these magazines reliable? I’ve heard mixed reviews regarding feeding issues. What has been your experience?
  • Have you encountered any jams? If so, under what conditions did they occur?

Sourcing & Pricing

  • Where have you purchased your 15 round magazines? Any specific retailers or online stores you recommend?
  • What’s a fair price? I’m trying to avoid overpaying, but I also want some good quality.

Maintenance Tips

  • How do you maintain your magazines? Any tips on preventing wear and tear?
  • Is there anything specific to look out for with these 15 round mags?

I’m keen on making the most informed decision and I’m curious about your experiences. Let’s get a discussion going about these magazines! Looking forward to your insights!

I’ve been using the Taurus 740 Slim with a 15 round magazine for about a year now. Overall, I’ve found it to be quite reliable. I’ve had minimal feeding issues with standard FMJ ammunition in both indoor and outdoor environments.

That’s good to hear! I’ve read mixed reviews about the magazine compatibility with different ammo types. What types have you tested?

I’ve mostly shot Federal and Winchester 9mm rounds, and they work great. I had some issues with hollow points jamming during my last visit to the range, though.

Hollow points can be tricky sometimes. I use Fiocchi and have had a smoother experience overall. Jamming has been non-existent for me, even when shooting in colder weather.

I experienced the same issue with hollow points. It seems like the magazine’s design may not favor them as much as standard rounds.

I think it might depend on the specific brand of hollow points. I’ve had good luck with Hornady’s Critical Defense, although I prefer to avoid jams altogether.

Just curious, what’s the best way to break in a new magazine? Should I test it rigorously from the start?

I usually load it and discharge it several times before taking it to the range. It might help reduce misfeeds.

I have to say, reliability in a self-defense situation is crucial. The Taurus magazine has served me well, but I can’t help but feel a bit apprehensive with some bullet types.

I’ve not had any problems in emergency situations. The magazine consistently feeds, but I think ensuring you test with the ammo you expect to carry is really important.

I still giggle thinking about my buddy’s experience. He thought he was Rambo until he hit a jam - kind of a wake-up call for him about proper magazine maintenance!

That makes sense. Regular testing with your carry ammo could save a lot of trouble down the line.

For those seeing issues, what’s the condition of your magazines? I’ve heard that some need regular maintenance to prevent issues.

I clean mine every couple hundred rounds. It helps keep the followers moving smoothly. Any other tips for maintenance?

I’d recommend checking the springs every now and then. A tired spring can lead to all sorts of feeding problems.

I’ve been using the Taurus 740 Slim 15 round magazine for a few months. It feeds reliably and is easy to load, which is a plus for me.

What’s great about the 15 round capacity is it provides a good balance between size and firepower. Just curious, how does it stack up in durability against others?

I’ve had a Taurus magazine before, and I liked the grip. With the 740 Slim, the 15 rounds feel well balanced in hand during shooting.

Absolutely, megan37! That balance really helps with quicker follow-ups. Have you compared it with other compact magazines?
