Thoughts on the S&W 686 4 Inch? Need Your Feedback!

I’ve always found it interesting how loyal people are to either S&W or Colt. The 686’s build quality shines, but Colt’s designs have a classic charm. Tough choice for any enthusiast!

I’m leaning towards the 686 for my next purchase. I’ve tested a Taurus and while it’s good for the money, the finish just doesn’t compare to S&W’s.

Great point! I think the aesthetic and feel of the S&W can’t be matched by the Taurus models. It’s like comparing a luxury car to a sedan!

What’s the general consensus on the reliability of the 686 compared to others? I’ve had mixed experiences with different revolvers.

I’ve never had a reliability issue with my 686. Ruger seems to hold up well, too. It’s all about maintenance, I think.

I love my 686, but I must admit, I was torn between it and the GP100. The GP100 is a beast and might take a few more rounds with its sturdier build.

The GP100 definitely offers a heavy-duty feel. But the sleekness of the 686 is hard to ignore.

Is it just me, or does the 686 seem to have the edge in user satisfaction ratings? Those reviews are glowing!

I’ve noticed that too! People love the way it shoots and say it’s great for both new users and seasoned shooters.

For a revolver, the price of the 686 is justified by its performance. Colt models can get pricy quickly, but they feel worth it too. Can I get a witness on that?

Absolutely, but aren’t we paying for that legendary S&W craftsmanship? It’s like choosing between a gourmet burger and fast food.

I’ve had my S&W 686 4 inch for a couple of years now, and I love the versatility it offers! Custom grips make a huge difference in comfort and control, especially during extended shooting sessions.

Absolutely! I switched to Hogue rubber grips, and they really reduced recoil for me. Way more comfortable than the stock ones!

I agree about the grips! I’ve been looking at custom wood grips too; they look great and add a nice personal touch. Any recommendations for specific brands?

You can’t go wrong with Altamont for wood grips. They offer some beautiful designs that fit the 686 perfectly!

I’ve been thinking about upgrading my sights as well. The factory sights are good, but I want something with better visibility for faster target acquisition. Any suggestions?

Try the Trijicon night sights; they’re fantastic! I’ve found them very helpful in low light conditions.

I noticed some people mention holsters as an important mod. What have you all been using? I’m looking for something that’s both functional and comfortable.

I swear by the Galco Belt Holster! It’s super comfortable for all-day wear and keeps the revolver secure. Plus, it looks pretty classy too!

I’ve actually had a mixed experience with holsters. I tried a leather one, but it felt bulky. Any thoughts on IWB options for the 686?
