Thoughts on the .300 Win Mag Remington 770?

I’m considering picking up a Remington 770 chambered in .300 Winchester Magnum and would love to get some feedback from those who have experience with it.

Overall Impressions

What do you think about the performance of the Remington 770? I’ve read mixed reviews online, and I’m particularly interested in its accuracy at range and reliability during hunting trips.

Pros and Cons

  • Pros: I’ve seen some discussions about how it handles recoil, which seems crucial for a .300 Win Mag. How does it feel when you’re firing?
  • Cons: Are there common problems or issues with this model that potential buyers should be aware of?

Ammunition Choices

Another aspect I’m curious about is the type of ammunition that works best with this rifle. What brands or load types have given you the best results? Are there specific recommendations you swear by?

Comparison with Other Models

How does the Remington 770 stack up against other rifles in the same category? If you’ve used other similar rifles, I’d appreciate any comparative insights on performance, handling, and price.

Would love to hear your thoughts, experiences, and any tips you might have! Thanks!

I’ve had my Remington 770 chambered in .300 Win Mag for a couple of years now. The accuracy has been impressive out to 400 yards, especially with the right ammunition. Overall, a solid choice for hunting!

That’s great to hear! How’s the recoil? I’ve heard the .300 Win Mag can be a bit brutal from lighter rifles.

The recoil is noticeable, but manageable. It definitely has a kick compared to my .270 Win, but with a good shoulder pad, it makes it easier to shoot consistently.

I’ve shot a few other rifles, and I found the 770’s recoil to be less punishing than my friend’s Weatherby. It might be a good entry rifle for the caliber.

That’s interesting! I’m considering the Remington 770. How do the ballistics stack up in your experience?

The ballistics of the .300 Win Mag are impressive! It’s flat-shooting and hits hard. I’ve taken elk and deer with it, and the performance is phenomenal.

That’s awesome! I’m curious if you have a preferred ammo brand for the .300 Win Mag?

I usually go with Federal Premium. Their Nosler Partition rounds have provided fantastic accuracy and knockdown power for me.

Now I feel the need to try them! Comparing the 770 with other rifles, how does it hold up?

Overall, the 770 is underrated. I’ve shot a friend’s Savage Axis in .300 Win Mag, and while it’s good, the 770 has a more comfortable, ergonomic stock.

Is the weight of the rifle a factor in your decision? I’ve noticed lighter rifles can help with maneuverability but have more recoil.

Good point! The 770 is a bit heavier, which I appreciate for stability. That weight does help to mitigate some of the recoil effects.

That makes a lot of sense! Weight can be a double-edged sword though, right?

Absolutely! Stability is key, but carrying it around all day can be tiring! It’s something to consider based on the hunt you’ll be doing.

True! Any humorous stories about your experiences with the .300 Win Mag? I love a good tale.

One time, I was sighting in at the range, and I accidentally didn’t shoulder it correctly… let’s just say the scope made a more personal acquaintance with my forehead! Lesson learned!

I’ve been using the .300 Win Mag in my Remington 770 for a few years now. The Hornady Precision Hunter rounds have performed exceptionally well for deer hunting. They hit hard and are quite accurate.

I’ve heard great things about those! Have you tried any other brands like Winchester or Barnes? I’m curious if they stack up.

I prefer Winchester Super-X for my Remington 770. It’s reliable and good for both plinking and hunting. The price is also reasonable compared to others. Have had zero jams too.
