Looking for the best hunting waterproof jacket - what do you recommend?

I’m in the market for a new waterproof jacket specifically for hunting, and I’d love to hear your recommendations! Finding something that keeps me dry while also being quiet is super important.

Here are a few things I’m looking for:

  • Weatherproofing: It has to stand up to rain and wind.
  • Comfort: I need something that won’t restrict my movement.
  • Stealth: The quieter, the better to avoid spooking game.
  • Durability: I want something that can handle rough conditions.

If you have any personal experiences with specific brands or models, please share! It would also be great to know how they perform in different weather conditions. Looking forward to your insights!

I’m looking for a waterproof jacket too! I’ve heard great things about Gore-Tex for its breathability and waterproof qualities. Anyone have specific recommendations?

I totally agree! Gore-Tex is a solid choice. I’ve had a jacket made with it for hunting trips, and it’s never let me down. Just make sure it’s also lightweight for easier movement.

Has anyone tried jackets made from nylon or polyester? I’m curious about how they compare to Gore-Tex in real hunting conditions.

I’ve used both! Nylon jackets are usually tougher and can withstand more wear and tear, but they might not breathe as well as Gore-Tex. Polyester is cheaper but doesn’t perform as well in heavy rain.

I read about some new waterproofing technologies like Hydroshell and eVent. They claim to offer good breathability and waterproofing. Anyone tested them in the field?

I’ve tried eVent on a couple of hunts and it worked great! Super breathable and kept me dry even in a heavy downpour. Definitely worth a look!

From my experience, it’s also about fit. A waterproof jacket that’s too tight won’t perform well if you’re layering up. Any suggestions for roomy yet waterproof jackets?

Good point, hogansheila! I found the Sitka Gear jackets to be both roomy and waterproof. They are a bit pricey but worth it for the durability.

What about the weight of these jackets? I imagine a heavier jacket would be cumbersome while trekking. Any advice on lightweight options?

Lightweight jackets can be just as effective! I use a Mountain Hardwear jacket that’s lightweight but holds up well against rain.

I love Mountain Hardwear! I also heard a lot of positive reviews about Columbia’s OutDry technology. Anyone here have experience with that?

I have a Columbia jacket with OutDry and it’s amazing! Totally waterproof and it hasn’t lost its effectiveness after several washes.

All this talk about waterproof jackets makes my wallet shiver! But seriously, can anyone suggest budget-friendly options that actually perform well?

I’ve tried several brands, but I find that the fit is crucial for comfort. A snug fit can sometimes restrict movement, especially when bending or climbing. I recommend checking out the offerings from Sitka; they have great options for mobility.

I second that! Sitka’s jackets are designed with hunters in mind. I’ve never had an issue with breathability, even during long hikes.

My experience with Cabela’s jackets has been positive too. They fit well for hunters with broader shoulders. But their breathability can be lacking during strenuous activities. Has anyone else noticed that?

Yes! Breathability is key. I prefer a jacket with pit zips to help airflow. I’ve found that the first lite jackets work well for this.

I love the lightweight feel of the LL Bean waterproof jackets. They’re perfect for all-day wear. Does anyone else agree? They’re good for layering too!

I totally agree with you! However, I found the sizing a bit off on some models. It helps to try them on in-store if possible.
