Looking for Recommendations on Game Vests for Squirrel Hunting

I’m on the hunt (pun intended) for some advice on game vests specifically designed for squirrel hunting. I’ve been venturing into small game hunting and I’m realizing how important it is to have the right gear, especially a good vest to hold everything I need easily accessible.

What I’m Looking For:

  • Quality and Durability: I want a vest that won’t fall apart after a few uses. Any brands known for their sturdiness?
  • Pockets and Storage: How many pockets do you find essential, and what do you usually carry?
  • Comfort: Since I’ll be on my feet quite a bit, comfort is key. Any suggestions on styles or fit?
  • Weather Resistance: Since weather can be pretty unpredictable, I could use tips on vests that hold up in the rain or cold.

My Current Gear:

I currently have a hunting jacket, but it’s bulky and cumbersome while trying to navigate through trees. I’d like something lighter and more functional for squirrel hunting—a vest seems like the perfect fit!

Questions for the Community:

  • What vests have you used that stood out to you?
  • Do you have any tips on where to purchase one at a reasonable price?
  • Any other gear recommendations for a successful squirrel hunt?

I appreciate any recommendations or personal experiences you can share. Looking forward to hearing from you all!

When choosing a game vest for squirrel hunting, look for lightweight, durable materials like polyester or nylon. Good vests should also have ample pockets for easy access to your gear and a comfortable fit to allow for freedom of movement.

I agree! Also, consider how many pockets you need. Some vests have specialized pockets for holding small game and tools, which can be super handy!

Don’t forget about comfort! A vest with padded shoulders can make a long day out in the woods much easier on your back. Look for adjustable straps, too.

Absolutely! Additionally, breathable fabric is a game-changer. You don’t want to end up sweating like crazy during the hunt!

I’ve been looking into vests too! What brands do you all recommend? I want something that’s not going to fall apart after one season.

You can’t go wrong with brands like Fishpond or Orvis for quality. They offer durable materials and reliable stitching.

It’s crucial to find a vest with easy access to your gear, but keep it streamlined. No one wants to be fumbling around when a squirrel pops up!

So true! Also, if it’s noisy when you’re moving, forget it! That could scare off all your targets. Silence is golden.

I keep hearing about this new brand ‘Squirrel Tech’ claiming to have the lightest and quietest vests. Has anyone tried them out yet? Worth considering?

I don’t know, the name sounds a bit gimmicky! But if they deliver on noise reduction, it could be good. Just make sure you’re not hunting squirrels with a vest that distracts you with its buzz!

I highly recommend the Cabela’s Mesh Hunting Vest. It’s lightweight and has great pockets for storage. Perfect for keeping your gear organized while squirrel hunting!

I’ve tried that vest! It’s super comfortable, but I personally prefer the Gamehide Ultimate Hunting Vest for its extra camouflage features.

Game vests with removable insulation can be a game-changer. I use the Frogg Toggs vest during cooler months. Versatile and effective!

Great advice! I added that one to my shopping list. Anyone know if it’s machine washable?

Yes, it’s machine washable! Just make sure to air dry it. I love my Gamehide vest too; very durable for all my hunting trips.

Why don’t they just make a vest with pockets everywhere? I mean, we need to carry snacks too, right? :joy:

Haha, true! A snack pocket would be a priority in my next vest design.

I’ve never been a fan of bulky vests. I stick to simple options like the Allen Company Game Vest. It has just enough room without being overkill.

That’s a good point. Sometimes less is more! But, what do you guys think about durability?
