Looking for insights on the Remington 11-48 - any reviews?

I’m considering picking up a Remington 11-48 and would love to hear from anyone who’s had experience with it! Specifically, I’m interested in:

  • Reliability: How well does it perform over time? Any recurring issues?
  • Performance: How does it handle different types of ammunition? Any preferences?
  • Value: Is it worth the price point based on your experience?

I’ve read a bit about some common problems like ejection issues and maintenance requirements.

  • Cleaning: How frequently do you have to clean it, and are there any tips you recommend for proper upkeep?
  • Troubleshooting: Any common fixes for issues you’ve encountered?

Would love to get as much detail as possible! Thanks in advance!

I’m glad to see this topic! I’ve been shooting the Remington 11-48 for years. In terms of reliability, it’s been solid for me, even in wet conditions. The cycling is smooth, and it’s great for both hunting and clay shooting.

That’s good to hear! I’ve heard mixed reviews on its performance in cold weather. Have you tried it during winter shoots?

I’ve had some issues with jamming in cold weather, but it handles everything else really well. I use standard loads for hunting and the 11-48 shoots accurately at reasonable ranges. It just needs a little maintenance!

That’s interesting! It sounds like cleaning and lubrication make a big difference. Do you have any recommendations for specific products?

I’ve used Hoppes No. 9 for cleaning, and it works well. Overall, I think the 11-48 is a fantastic piece for the price. The accuracy can impress even those shooting with much newer, higher-end models.

I love my 11-48! The balance feels perfect when shooting. I mainly shoot trap and have had few issues. Definitely worth considering if you’re looking for a reliable shotgun.

I agree! I’ve also found it to be very manageable, even with heavier loads. How does it feel for recoil—do you think it’s manageable?

Yes, the recoil is surprisingly mild. I’ve shot heavier loads without feeling overwhelmed. It’s great for a day at the range without fatigue!

That’s a relief! Sometimes heavier loads can be intimidating. What’s the most challenging situation you’ve used this in?

Mine has performed best on windy days while duck hunting. Wouldn’t believe how well it cycles through tough conditions! Just gotta be careful about mud and debris.

I can imagine! I’ve always found it to be quite forgiving with various loads, but hunting muddy fields could be a challenge. Anyone had any other unexpected adventures with theirs?

Just during a clay shoot last summer! Lost my footing and ended up on my backside, but the shotgun? No issues at all! Had everyone cracking up. It definitely handled the fall better than I did!

Love a good story! That’s what makes shooting fun. It sounds like the 11-48 can handle a lot—what do you think is its biggest drawback?

Honestly, it might be the weight for some. It’s not a lightweight model, which could be challenging for all-day carry. But if you can handle it, it’s definitely worth it for its performance.

I’ve owned a Remington 11-48 for over a decade. It requires regular cleaning, especially after shooting. Make sure to maintain the gas system for optimal performance.

Absolutely! The gas system is critical. I usually clean mine thoroughly after a day at the range to prevent buildup.

I find the 11-48 quite durable, but I had to replace the recoil spring after about 5 years. It’s essential to check components regularly.

Good point! I had a similar experience. Replacing the recoil spring can make a noticeable difference in performance.

One issue I faced was with the magazine tube getting gummed up. A good cleaning using a brush and some solvent helped.
