Looking for Info on Smith & Wesson Model 36-1 (3" Barrel)

I’m exploring the Smith & Wesson Model 36-1, particularly the variant with the 3-inch barrel. I’m interested in diving into some specifics:

Key Aspects of Interest:

  • Specifications: Does anyone have detailed knowledge about the key features or specifications of this model? How does the 3-inch barrel affect its performance compared to the shorter versions?
  • Current Pricing: I’m considering buying one and would really appreciate insights on what a fair price range looks like for a Model 36-1 in good condition. Are there certain factors that significantly influence its value?

I swear by CLP (Cleaner, Lubricant, Protectant) for cleaning my revolver. It works wonders and keeps everything running smoothly!

Great point, Kathleen! After cleaning, don’t forget to properly lubricate the moving parts. A little bit of oil goes a long way for longevity.

How often do you all recommend cleaning the Model 36-1 after shooting? I usually do it every time, but am I too strict?

Mitchell, cleaning after every shooting session is pretty standard, especially if you’re using it regularly. Better safe than sorry, right?

What about the grips? Should I be concerned about maintaining wood versus rubber grips differently? Any insights?

Great question, Susan! Wood grips might require more care, like polishing occasionally. Rubber just needs a nice wipe down.

I find that a damp cloth is perfect for cleaning rubber grips to avoid any residue buildup!

Speaking of maintenance, how frequently should I check and replace springs in the Model 36-1?

G, it’s usually good to inspect the springs once a year, or if you notice any performance issues. Frequent use means you’ll need to stay on top of it!

I’ve had my Model 36-1 for years, and honestly, it’s all about regular care. A routine really pays off!

Absolutely! What do you typically do for your routine cleaning, E?

I usually go for a full breakdown cleaning after a few sessions, Larry. Makes sure I that I catch all the grime!

Maybe I’m missing something, but does anyone ever struggle with rust on these models? I’d hate to let my firearm deteriorate.

Oh, Jessica! It’s key to store them properly. A rust inhibitor can help. And heck, if you’ve ever seen a rusty gun, it’s not pretty!

I like to get a good laugh out of this, but my buddy tried cleaning his revolver with liquid detergent once. Spoiler alert: it did not end well!

I’m also looking into the Model 36-1! For ammunition, I recommend trying Speer Gold Dot 158gr +P. It’s known for good stopping power and manageable recoil.

That’s a solid choice! I’ve had great experiences with the Hydra-Shok 158gr as well. It performs beautifully in terms of expansion.

Don’t overlook practice loads for accurate shooting! I’ve found that standard pressure .38 Special rounds give a nice balance of control and firepower.
