Looking for Hornady 165 FTX Load Data for 350 Legend

Seeking Reloading Data for Hornady 165 FTX

I’ve recently started reloading for my .350 Legend and I’m particularly interested in using the Hornady 165 grain FTX bullets. I’ve done some initial research, but I’m finding a bit of a mix when it comes to load data, and I want to make sure I’m on the right track.

Specifics I’m Looking For:

  1. Powder Recommendations: What powders have you found work best with the Hornady 165 FTX? I’ve heard both H110 and Lil’ Gun mentioned a lot, but I’m curious about other options too.
  2. Velocity and Pressure: What velocities are you achieving with your loads? It would be great to know if anyone has experience with pressure signs on these loads as well.
  3. Accuracy: How has your experience been in terms of accuracy with this bullet over different distances? Any tips for load development would be appreciated!
  4. Use Cases: Are there specific scenarios (hunting vs. target shooting) where you’ve found this bullet performs particularly well?

What I’ve Tried So Far:

  • I’ve started with some basic recipes I found online, but I haven’t had much chance to hit the range yet to really test them out.
  • I’ve also been experimenting with OAL to see what fits best in my rifle’s magazine, but I’d love to hear what others have found too.

Conclusion:

I know there are a lot of knowledgeable reloaders here, so any input you can provide would be invaluable. I’m really looking to refine my loads and get the most out of the Hornady 165 FTX in my .350 Legend. Thanks in advance for your help!

I’m also looking for Hornady 165 FTX load data! I’ve heard that they perform well at moderate speeds. Anyone have tips on powder types?

Absolutely! I’ve used Hodgdon Lil’ Gun with good results, keeping my loads between 2000-2200 fps for accuracy.

Consistency is key when loading with the 165 FTX. Make sure to measure your powder charges by weight rather than volume. It really helps maintain accuracy.

Great point! I’m also using a digital scale for that. It really minimizes the variations in loads.

I prefer using CCI 200 primers for my Hornady loads. They really help with ignition consistency in colder weather, which is a plus!

Exactly! However, I’ve seen some contention about using WLR primers instead. Anyone else have thoughts on that?

I find both CCI and WLR primers work well, but I’d recommend experimenting to see what your rifle prefers. 350 Legend can be finicky.

Haha! Finicky indeed! Kind of like me when choosing a restaurant! But seriously, experimenting is the way to go. Don’t be afraid to try different loads and see what groups the best.

So true! I did a series of test loads with various bullet seating depths and found a sweet spot around 2.25".

That’s great information! I’ve noticed that seating depth can also affect pressure signs. Always check those as you load. Safety first!

Absolutely, and my rifle loves loads around 1.75" COL. It’s all about finding what works best for you!

I’ve been reflecting on my previous loading experiences, and it’s amazing how much variation comes from minor adjustments. Patience really pays off in this hobby.

Well said! A little humor helps too. I once accidentally loaded too short, and let’s just say my targets got a surprise! Just gotta learn from those mishaps!

I’m also looking for data on powders for the Hornady 165 FTX. I’ve heard good things about Winchester 296. It provides great velocity and accuracy!

I’ve also had success with Hodgdon CFE BLK. It’s clean and consistent, but a bit more expensive. Anyone else tried it?

CFE BLK is definitely a solid choice! However, don’t overlook Alliant Power Pro 2000-MR. It offers some great results too, but it can be temperature sensitive.

True! That’s something to keep in mind. How do you all store your powders to mitigate this?

For storage, I keep my powders in a cool, dark place. It seems to help with consistency over time. What do you all think about IMR powders?

I find IMR powders a bit tricky, but they can work well in lower temperatures. Has anyone tried Varget with the Hornady 165 FTX?
