I think the National Match M1A is designed with meticulous standards. The heavy match barrel greatly contributes to its accuracy. Anyone else notice this?

Absolutely! The barrel composition makes a huge difference, especially when paired with the right ammo. What loads does everyone prefer?

I’ve found that the trigger pull specification is just as important. A lighter trigger can really enhance performance on the range.

Exactly! I had mine adjusted to about 4 lbs, and it made a noticeable difference. Anyone else play with their triggers?

Trigger modifications can vary a lot. Just make sure you stay within legal limits.

I’ve also done some stock modifications, and they totally improved the ergonomics. It feels more stable now.

Nice! I haven’t tried that yet. Did you go with a full replacement or just some adjustments?

I just adjusted mine. A new buttstock is in the plans though. The build quality overall seems tight and well executed.

I agree, the overall build quality makes a huge difference in consistency and durability. Can anyone weigh in on their experience with long-term use?

I’ve had mine for over five years now, and it’s still shooting straight. Just keep it clean and well-maintained.

That’s good to hear! I’ve heard some say that the accuracy diminishes over time if not properly cared for.

True, but with the M1A, it’s kinda like wine; it can get better with age if treated right! Or did I just make that up? LOL

Well, if the accuracy is like wine, then mine’s probably grape juice by now! What’s your cleaning routine, or is it a secret?

Haha, I clean mine after every range day. It keeps everything functioning smoothly. Plus, I like to feel I’ve put in the effort!

Sounds like a solid routine! Is there any specific oil or cleaner you all recommend?

I swear by CLP for standard cleaning, but some say a good synthetic oil is the way to go for precision.

Thanks for the tip! I’ll definitely try that. Anyone had issues with rust on their M1A?

I’ve had great success using 168 grain match bullets with H4895 powder. It seems to deliver the best accuracy in my M1A for National Match competitions.

That’s interesting, shannon41! I’m currently experimenting with 175 grain bullets. Have you tried those? They seem promising for wind drift.
