I felt the same way, @cohenryan. It seemed like it just attracted more dirt, so I stopped using it. Sticking with the original formula is best for me!
Well, that’s disappointing! I was hoping for a better cleaning solution. Anyone else have success with different oils?
I’ve had good luck with some motor oils mixed in. Just a few drops have worked wonders for me, really enhances the cleaning!
That sounds intriguing! Did it change the smell of Ed’s Red for you?
Funny you ask! Yes, it adds a bit of a ‘garage’ smell, but I don’t mind it. I find it quite refreshing.
What about the effectiveness though? Does it really clean better with motor oil or just different?
I think it’s just different, @andrew44. It seemed to coat the gun better, but for heavy residues, I still had to scrub more.
It sounds like everyone has their preferences! For me, I love the standard mix. Nothing beats classic Ed’s Red for an effective clean.
True, @amandagilbert! The original formula is time-tested, but I love hearing everyone’s personal twists. They can be really creative!
I enjoy experimenting too! Just the other day, I tried mixing in some vinegar for de-scaling, it was a wild ride!
Vinegar? That’s a bold move, @edward69! How did that turn out? Did it actually help with the cleaning?
It worked surprisingly well! Perfect for cleaning away rust, but it definitely has a potent smell. Use at your own risk!
Thanks for sharing that, @edward69! I might have to try it out. Can’t hurt to give it a go, right?
