Julie’s passion for shooting began in her youth, growing up in upstate New York. She spent weekends on the range and afternoons hunting with her father, which ignited her interest in firearms. At the age of fourteen, she entered her first shooting competition and quickly became captivated by the sport. Her dedication and natural talent led her to compete in the United States Practical Shooting Association’s (USPSA) National Championships by 1994.

In 1995, Julie enlisted in the United States Army and joined the elite U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit (AMU) as part of the Action Shooting Team. Her exceptional performance earned her the titles of U.S. Army Female Athlete of the Year and AMU Athlete of the Year. During her military tenure, she secured numerous titles, including the Ladies World Speed Shooting Champion in 1999.

After her honorable discharge from the Army, Julie transitioned to a professional shooting career in the civilian sector. She became the first and only shooter, male or female, to win national titles in all seven USPSA divisions, a testament to her versatility and skill. Her list of accolades includes prestigious victories in competitions such as the Bianchi Cup, Steel Challenge, and International Defensive Pistol Association (IDPA) events.

Beyond her competitive achievements, Julie is a prolific author and educator. Her first book, “SHOOT: Your Guide to Shooting and Competition,” serves as a comprehensive primer for those interested in the shooting sports, offering insights into firearm safety, techniques, and the competitive shooting world. Recognizing the importance of firearm safety education for children, she authored “Toys, Tools, Guns & Rules: A Children’s Book About Gun Safety,” providing parents with a valuable resource to teach kids about responsible gun handling.

Julie’s influence extends into media and advocacy. She has appeared on television programs such as the History Channel’s “Top Shot” and “Top Guns,” and has served as a guest host on “Impossible Shots.” As a dedicated ambassador for the shooting sports, she contributes to various platforms, sharing her expertise and promoting responsible gun ownership. Her commitment to firearm safety is further exemplified through her role as the official spokesperson for the National Shooting Sports Foundation’s Project ChildSafe.

In addition to her professional pursuits, Julie is a proud wife and mother. She balances her career with family life, often involving her children in her outdoor and shooting activities. An avid hunter and outdoorswoman, she enjoys cooking and sharing recipes, particularly those featuring game she has harvested herself. Her personal motto, “work hard, share knowledge, and showcase a winning spirit through a blend of kindness, ferocity, and humility,” reflects her approach to both her personal and professional life.
