Legally Armed Citizens,
Keep Your Hands Visible

Ask any law enforcment officer about keeping your hands visible when they know your armed, and each one will tell you, in their own way, why this is important.  They all have been trained to be aware of hands.  However, in real life, some have experienced actual situations where a person has tried to hurt them in some way with a blade, gun, or something else.  These officers are more concerned about a persons hands than other officers.

In the states where CCW training is required, most states point this area out to CCW students.  Some remember what they were taught, and some don't.  Some Legally Armed Citizens say " I keep my CCW License or Permit in my wallet".  I tell the officer that I am Legally Armed, and when asked, I produce my CCW License / Permit from my wallet."  To get their CCW License / Permit, they had to dig into their pants or purse to get it.  Lets consider that this officer has just come from a homicide scene, or where a shooting has taken place.  The officer is not in the same mood as he was when he left his home.  His level of stress is higher than usual.  He wants to make it home tonight.  In the moning if he had to pull his gun on the job, he probably had his finger on the outside of the frame.  Now, after seeing the homicide or the victims of the shooting, his finger might be inside the trigger guard.  He is most concerned about his safety.  Some will disagree with these statements, however in  real life situations, this is what happens.

As a Legally Armed Citizen, you should make sure that in every situation, you are as safe as possible when your armed.  This is especially true if you have been involved in a shooting incident, or where you had to draw your pistol for some reason.  Lets face it, when the law arrives on the scene, they already know there is a gun or multiple guns present at the scene.  Their stress level is high.  They do not know who is the good guy or bad guy.

" I bought this product at the RK Knoxville Tennessee Gun Show.  Got stopped by an officer the following day on my way to work.  Told him I was armed and my handgun permit was in my ID Pouch attached to my visor.  He asked me to get it for him.  I got it & after he gave it back to me, he told me that what I did made sense.  He thought it was a good idea that I did not have to dig around to get my permit & drivers license.  He let me go without any ticket. Great product. "

Article is good for us to keep In mind at all times. I am a retired officer and I can convey to you, that hand location is of utmost importance to officers during the process. Hands are what can deliver the hurt to you. I advise all of my students to keep you hands on the steering wheel until the officer advises you it is ok to move them. I also advise my students to immediately inform the officer they have a CARRY Permit. Keeps the word gun out of it. Some officers will want to see the permit and some may not. If you do not have the carry pouch, move very slowly and deliberately when the officer says it is ok to do so. In most cases all will go well. Please remember no fast moves and keep your hands visible as much as possible. Only drawback I can see is if you leave the permit in the vehicle in the pouch and you are somewhere else carrying the weapon. Work out the best method for you and always stick to it. If you pants are on, have the carry permit with you.
