One problem facing people who are authorized to carry a weapon is the problem of locations where that weapon CANNOT be carried. With most people, these restrictions cause them to leave his or her pistol at home, in the office, or in a vehicle.
Why bother to go through all the steps to be 'authorized' to carry a weapon if you don't intend to to carry it? The lie many people tell themselves is that life-or-death situations happen to other people - not to them. Well, no one knows who, when, or where a dangerous incident will occur. Listen to the 911 call (link below) from inside a mall shooting. What don't you hear in the background? Return fire! Why? The Westroads Mall is a "Gun Free Zone!"
My opinion is that you shouldn't worry about locations where you can't carry your pistol. Go ahead and carry a smaller gun in your pocket, or wear a jacket so you can conceal a medium-sized pistol. Furthermore, always be ready! When law-abiding citizens are disarmed by restrictions, the law-breakers and the nut-cakes have an 'open invitation' to cause all the harm they want. What if your wife or children were in the line of fire?
Don't take that chance. I realize I am suggesting that law-abiding people disregard the law. I write publications about where weapons can and cannot be carried. Well, I have seen what gun shots, edged weapons, and other devices can do to the human body. It is always in the best interest of law-abiding citizens to protect themselves from weapons in the hands of anyone who means to harm them, a loved one, or an innocent bystander. Here are some things we can do to help each other:
* Find every opportunity at the state level to advocate removal of carry restrictions, or support exemptions for permit-holders to carry a weapon in locations where firearms are restricted. * Help me start a list of companies, organizations, retail locations, etc. that do not restrict legal firearms on their premises. Many grass-roots organizations have lists of companies that do not allow lawful concealed weapons carry on their premises. I want to develop a list that will help us spend our money with people and organizations who feel as we do about staying alive and not allowing the thugs to rule! Please help me with this task. Let's do business with individuals and organizations who don't place restrictions on us because we legally carry weapons. * Start carrying your weapon with you at all times, even into locations that have posted firearms restrictions. Time and time again the thug, gang-banger, or the nut-case does what he does - hurts and kills innocent people - because there is no one to stop him. Laws allowing properly permitted citizens to carry weapons were established for legitimate self-defense. You cannot punch your way out of a gun fight!
The movement to allow law-abiding citizens to carry 'defensive' weapons came about when Kitty Genovese was stabbed to death on a public street in New York. Over 60 people stood around and did nothing about it because it is virtual suicide to try to fight an assailant who is attacking someone with a knife. When this happened, all the war-hardened veterans of WWII and Korea stood tall again and said, "That isn't right." There were a few states with 'open carry' laws, but most of them were in the South. The Kitty Genovese case sparked a true nationwide movement. The process has taken many years, but it has finally happened.
I don't want to turn this into a novel. Let me close by encouraging everyone to work hard to eliminate the restrictive provisions of state carry laws. There are not enough law enforcement officers to do the job. Their job is not to protect you and your family - that is up to you. Listen to the 911 call using the link below and think about how you would feel if one of your family members was in that Mall.
Interested in helping? Please send me information regarding any businesses or organizations you know that do not restrict lawful carry. I will contact each one of them to verify their position; then, I will post name of that business or organization on this website. Compiling and keeping this list up-to-date will help that organization by increasing business, and help us keep ourselves, our families, and our neighbors safe. It is just my opinion, but it seems to me the best way to eliminate the posting issue is where you spend your money. In the late 90's when Kmart went on thier rant about not selling hndgun ammo because it kills children(thier words not mine) all of the carry constituants, the sportsman and nearly everyone on our side avoided them like the plague. I still will not go to Kmart. My point is if you are legally armed and you walk up to a posted door, instead of spending money there turn around and walk away. Go some where else to buy what you need and lend support to the people and places that respect your rights. No Name ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I agree with what you are saying and I have always preached that it is up to us to protect families and then let the cops and God sort it out afterwards. My 911 call is a .380 CCW.
I will endeavor to comply with your wishes and attempt to compile a complete list of facilities and businesses in and around Lexington, KY that allow concealed carry.
Dan Gilbert Lexington, Kentucky -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I was asked yesterday after this broke if I carried a gun when I was in the mall. Hell yea! was the answer. Attached is something you may want to look at and want to post if you think it is worth it.
"All that is necessary for evil to flourish is for good [people] to do nothing." Edmund Burke (1729-1797) Ronald E. Dodd Chattanooga, Tennessee -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I would like to tell people something about Gene Kennedy & the Legally Armed Website. I live in Texas. I had a young man threaten and stalk my daughter. I spoke to the police. they could not do anything. I was scared & so was she. Spent time with Gene in the military. Called him & explained the problem. He had not seen me in over 20+ years. He came to Texas & taught my daughter how to shoot & survive. Not long after, she had to use her gun. She is still here. her stalker is not. Can't thank him enough & agree 100% on this issue. I will do whatever I can to support this movement. Ronnie Texas ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is the only thing I have seen in a while regarding guns and carrying that makes sense. Why have a concealed weapon permit if you can't carry your gun? I don't do business with firms that tell me I can't carry my weapon. They don't know because I conceal it but, they dont' care. Do they provide security for me? Probably the same security that helped the people who died in this shooting incident. Count me in for support. W.D.W. New York -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If there is a list for my state that tells me where I can carry by pistol, I will be using the list all the time. Mary T. Virginia ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I talked with the Regional Manager of Castle Jewelers , Mr. Matt Willis he's at 859-XXX-XXXX. When CCW was taking hold in Clinton, AR, MANY businesses posted "No weapons/firearms allowed" signs, but they didn't last long. Apparently the people carrying weapons stopped going there. Now I can't name a business in this small town that doesn't allow guns. They must have come to realize that in gun free zones, only crooks have guns. My thought is that if I had to use my weapon when in a place that disallows guns, I would probably be alive and very likely in prison, where I couldn't defend my family, so I stay out of places where guns are not allowed, with the exception of church. Need to lobby the legislature on removing that restriction. At church I park right outside the back door, hoping that I could get out to my car and get my gun, should defense be needed. Any loss of life will be on the heads of the legislators who made the law. The Lord knows my heart, that I take an interest in my family's defense, so I just trust Him to do all the work when I'm in church. Ozark Bob ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Dear legally armed citizens, as the owner of Captain's Shirt Shack screen printing in Niota, TN. we are proud to say that we are NOT a "gun free" zone. Legally armed citizens need to band together and start making a financial impact on retailers/businesses who have "gun free" zones, money talks and the only way to get the attention is scream the loudest, and not to spend our money in these places. I agree with Gene in his letter that we need to carry our weapons at all times, when we least suspect it, this will be the time we need our weapons. Criminals are winning this war, they disregard "gun free" zones, and then the tragedy much like what happened at the Nebraska mall is headlining on CNN. Imagine if 1 person had been armed in that mall.... the outcome could have been much different, as it was at the Colorado church when 1 women stood up and said "this is not happening today" and took action. I hope I never encounter a situation where I need to draw my weapon from the holster, but if I do encounter a "life or death" situation, I want a fair chance to walk out of it alive. Sincerely, Gary & Dawn Neal- Captain's Shirt Shack
