QUESTION # 2

"I LIVE IN TENNESSEE, DO YOU HAVE TO CARRY YOUR GUN IN YOUR PANTS OR UNDER YOUR
SHIRT OR CAN YOU CARRY IT ON YOUR BELT WHERE ANYONE CAN SEE IT."
Gary, Rutherford County, Tennessee

ED LOWREY ANSWER:

If you took the Tennessee Handgun Permit course from a competent instructor, you would know this as it is a
key point in the lesson outline mandated by the state. Or you may have been daydreaming about something exotic.
Either way it has a clear answer. Tennessee has a "Handgun Permit" license, not a Concealed Carry License.
Technically you can carry it exposed, but I strongly advise against it. You may have the right to do so, but you
will be explaining that right to every cop that is called when a concerned citizen sees your pistol and whispers in
the cell phone to 911...."Man with a gun in so and so market"...CARRY IT CONCEALED at all times.
There are a lot of good reasons:

1. It gives you the advantage if a person threatens or attacks you. He is
not expecting you to pull a gun out when he demands your money.

2. It keeps everyone around you comfortable and shows you are a considerate
person. Even if you are not, do it anyway and pretend like you care what
others think.

3. It keeps everyone comfortable, especially the man in line behind you who
plans on robbing the store and may initiate the robbery by shooting you
first if he sees the gun.

4. Helps to keep the police from jumping to conclusions and helps to keep
you from being spread eagle against a wall.

5. I allows you to blend in to your surroundings and not stand out.

Carry concealed. Use concealment garments and devices and practice drawing from them. Then practice some
more. AND DO NOT carry your gun in your pants. It can fall down your pants and that can be embarrassing
and very dangerous. Even in the summer you can carry on a belt using a light weight outer garment to conceal it.
If you have yet to attend the Tennessee Handgun Permit course, I hope this motivates you to stay awake and take
good notes. If you have a permit, I suggest you attend another course taught by a better instructor.
